Detection of virulence associated genes, haemolysin and protease amongst Vibrio cholerae isolated in Malaysia.
Eighty-four strains of Vibrio cholerae O1, O139 and non-O1/non-O139 from clinical and environmental sources were investigated for the presence of the toxin co-regulated pilus gene, tcpA, the virulence cassette genes ctxA, zot, ace and cep and also for their ability to elaborate haemolysin and protease. The ctxA and zot genes were detected using DNA-DNA hybridization while the ace, cep and tcpA ...
متن کاملMolecular Detection of Zonula Occludens Toxin (zot) Genes in Vibrio Cholerae O1 using PCR
Background: Zot (Zonula occludens toxin) is one of the secretion toxins of Vibrio cholerae in small intestine that binds to certain receptors in the epithelial cells and causes a change in the structure of tight junction. The purpose of this research is rapid detection of zot enterotoxin gene using PCR. Materials and Methods: The genomic DNA was extracted by DNA isolation kit and gene amplific...
متن کاملCharacterization of Vibrio cholerae isolated from oysters.
Of 790 samples of oyster shellstock freshly harvested during a 12-month survey, 111 (most of which were harvested from June through August) contained Vibrio cholerae non-O1 (611 strains), and seven contained O1 Inaba (11 strains) organisms. None of the V. cholerae strains isolated were enterotoxigenic by immunological and biological tests.
متن کاملDetermination of ctxAB expression in Vibrio cholerae Classical and El Tor strains using Real-Time PCR
Cholera is an infection of the small intestines caused by the bacterium V. cholerae. It is a major cause of health threat and also a major cause of death worldwide and especially in developing countries. The major virulence factor produced by V. cholerae during infection is the cholera toxin. Total mRNA extraction and reverse transcription was performed for making ctxAB cDNA. Relative Real-Time...
متن کاملDetection of RTX toxin gene in Vibrio cholerae by PCR.
A PCR that amplifies a recently discovered Vibrio cholerae RTX (repeat in toxin) toxin gene was developed. Among 166 clinical and environmental isolates of V. cholerae causing epidemics and sporadic cases of cholera in various parts of the world, all were found to be toxigenic by both PCR and HEp-2 cell cytotoxicity assay. Standard strains of the classical biotype containing a deletion within t...
